Mary Crawford Fanzine Collection

  • TxAM-CRS C000247
  • Collectie
  • 1976-2010

This collection consists of fanzines, mostly fanfiction, involving the television shows Star Trek: The Original Series and Starsky & Hutch, with one additional fanzine devoted to Multimedia.)

The majority of the contents in this collection consist of fanfiction. Fanfiction is the name given to literary or artistic productions created by fans about the characters, settings, and events of the media universe in which they are interested. A substantial portion of the fanworks in the Crawford Collection is identified as "slash”. "Slash" refers to fanworks that feature same-sex relationships and are sometimes (though not always) sexually explicit. In slash, sexual identity, sexuality, and/or romance are often the centers of the story, rather than the conventional adventures featured in more traditional fanworks.

Slash and het (that is, items dealing with opposite-sex relationships) items are identified as such on the item folder. If an item is not identified as slash or het, it is to be assumed that the item is “gen” (containing no sexual or romantic content). Both slash and het items have been specifically identified because of their importance as highly visible fan fiction subcultures, (s) indicates slash material, (h) indicates het material, (g) indicates gen material.

Texas A&M University, Dean of Agriculture Correspondence

  • TxAM-CRS 1472
  • Collectie
  • 1959-1971

This collection consists of the white, extra copies of the correspondence of the Dean of Agriculture. Most of the correspondence dates from 1960-1968. It should be noted that there is some overlap with material for the Texas Agriculture Experiment Station. This is due to the fact that both R. E. Patterson and H. O. Kunkel who were Deans of Agriculture during this time span also served as Directors of the Experiment Station simultaneously.

The papers from 1959 are from the tenure of Dr. R. E. Patterson as Vice Chancellor for Agriculture. In 1960 he was appointed Dean of Agriculture and simply continued this white copy file until his resignation and departure in August of 1967. Dr. H. O. Kunkel, upon his assumption of duty as the Dean of Agriculture, chose to continue to add to the files of his predecessor rather than creating his own. These files cover virtually the entire time span in which the Dean of Agriculture and Director of the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station were posts held concurrently by the same individual (1960-1972).

Thomas F. Collison and Elizabeth Mason Collison Collection

  • TxAM-CRS C000298
  • Collectie
  • 1970-1971

This collection contains a variety of materials including the personal papers and research materials related to Thomas F. Collison, a journalist, and author who resided in California from the 1950s until his death in 1997. The collection consists of working papers, typescripts, manuscript notes, correspondence, and scrapbooks related to Thomas Collison's research into the life and work of Miguel de Cervantes. Additionally, the collection includes photographs of the packing and shipment of the book collection.

Of particular interest is a manuscript written by Thomas Collison for his unpublished book, Miguel de Cervantes. The Pictorial Life of Cervantes (1547-1616). His Times, His Works, His Place in Literature. The manuscript is unfinished and the collection contains only two chapters. Collison turned his interest to Spain in 1962 when he and his wife, Elizabeth, began splitting their time between their home in California and La Herradura, Spain. It is unknown when Collison stopped working on his manuscript, but it is thought to be in the late 1980s due to declining health.

Another item of interest is two large scrapbooks created by Collison. The scrapbooks were likely used as a reference for his manuscript. The scrapbooks, titled "Pictorial Life of Cervantes" and "Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra", contain pictures and notes that document Miguel de Cervantes' life, work, and influences.
