Biographical history

Dr. Robert Franklin Smith was born in Houston, TX on June 1, 1858. He attended to old Austin College (what is now named Sam Houston University in Huntsville) in 1881. He was superintendent of Willis public school and came to Texas A&M College as an assistant professor of mathematics in 1882. He worked at A&M College for fifty years before suddenly passed away at 73, in August 1931. In his spare time, he compiled a history of Texas A&M College and created a historical sketch of the area.

This collection contains the works of Robert F. Smith pertaining to his work over the early history of A&M College called "Brief Sketch of A&M College". Included are his notes, rough drafts, and his original manuscript written in pencil, "History of the Agricultural and Mechanical College", 1895.
