This collection contains 54 handwritten letters and documents addressed to Lawrence Sullivan Ross during his time as Governor of Texas [1887-1891], and from his time of President of Texas A&M College [1891-1898]. Also included are two Texas A&M College memorial service program for Lawrence Sullivan Ross [January 15-16, 1898].

This collection contains telegrams, correspondence, and photographs of Joel Hunt, who played Quarterback for the Texas A&M Football team from 1925 to 1927. The items appear to be from Joel Hunt’s scrapbook that was disassembled into this collection.

This collection contains baseball programs, scorecards, and schedules

This collection consists of the white, extra copies of the correspondence of the Dean of Agriculture. Most of the correspondence dates from 1960-1968. It should be noted that there is some overlap with material for the Texas Agriculture Experiment Station. This is due to the fact that both R. E. Patterson and H. O. Kunkel who were Deans of Agriculture during this time span also served as Directors of the Experiment Station simultaneously.

The papers from 1959 are from the tenure of Dr. R. E. Patterson as Vice Chancellor for Agriculture. In 1960 he was appointed Dean of Agriculture and simply continued this white copy file until his resignation and departure in August of 1967. Dr. H. O. Kunkel, upon his assumption of duty as the Dean of Agriculture, chose to continue to add to the files of his predecessor rather than creating his own. These files cover virtually the entire time span in which the Dean of Agriculture and Director of the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station were posts held concurrently by the same individual (1960-1972).

This collection contains an assortment of reports, booklets, research papers, committee reports and project reports produced by or in connection with the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station, and is only a small part of the materials which highlight the role of Texas A&M in the development of the state's agricultural program.

The records included dates between 1938 and 1977, with the majority of the papers from 1968-1977. Of the significant items included, the annual reports of the Southern Agricultural Workers are available between 1938 and 1972, though some years are missing. Also, there are a number of project reports on research undertaken for Houston Lighting and Power and a number of publications included.

These scrapbooks contain clippings, pictures, and other materials Dewey accumulated as a member of the Texas Legislature.

The E. J. Kyle (1894-1957) Papers contains reports, correspondence, speeches, articles, applications, pamphlets, newspaper clippings, programs, pictures, memorandums, lists, and resolutions. Materials include correspondence, reports, speeches, and articles on E. J. Kyle's attempts to acquire more land and construct new buildings for the School of Agriculture at Texas A & M College. Other speeches and articles written by E. J. Kyle are concerned with subjects as cotton, soil conservation, and the cultivation of vegetables, fruits and nuts, particularly pecans.

Also present are reports Kyle wrote pertaining to Texas A & M College's enrollment plans and teaching techniques in Agricultural classes. Since Kyle was the head of many different programs at Texas A & M College, his papers contain applications and other information regarding the Land Prize, Anderson-Clayton Company Scholarship, and programs on Short Courses taught from 1913 to 1936. In addition to his academic duties, Kyle was also deeply involved with various types of research and the papers contain a few of the booklets, articles, and resolutions pertaining to the Soil Erosion Project, Frozen Food Research, and Texas Wildlife Research.

Correspondence in the papers deals with not only E. J. Kyle's work, but also contains letters from former students, commendations sent to Kyle, and letters concerning the naming of Kyle Field sports arena on the Texas A & M College campus.

Photographs contained in the collection are pertain to agricultural topics, such as cattle and pecan trees, the NYA program, Texas A & M College buildings, Texas A & M College football teams and sports events, and Kyle Field.Several football team rosters, programs from football games, newspaper clippings about sports events, and correspondence dealing with Kyle's position on the Athletic Council represent Kyle's close connection with many of the Texas A & M College athletics program.

Also present is a certificate of Kyle's appointment to the Farm Credit Association.

This collection contains letters and greeting cards to and from A. R. (Albert Richard) Moses during his time in the military. Most of the greeting cards are from the Christmas/New Year season or for his birthday.

This collection consists of various correspondence, photographs, short handwritten manuscripts, and oral history communications with transcripts describing Ava Johnson's life, and work as a women cattle ranger in Texas.

The collection was compiled by Cynthia Ott, who interviewed Ava Johnson Cox with the intent of publishing a history of early 20th-century life in what is known as the Hill Country of Texas (highlighting Blanco, Gillespie, and Hays counties).

This collection contains manuscripts, field notes, photographs, and audio recordings of Dr. Thomas’s work as an anthropologist in Mexico.

This collections includes a brief biography of Barclay composed by his daughter, Louzelle Barclay, seven photographs concerning A&M College of Texas (Texas A&M University) including one image taken of several alumni by the R. Sullivan Ross statue on the A&M campus and a shot of B. Sbisa, Alumni letters spanning 20 years (1916-1936), and engineering notes taken by Barclay while attending A&M College of Texas.

This collection includes Dr. Andreadis' research files, library, journals, writings, correspondence, and manuscript materials which were collected during her 40 years as a member of the faculty of Texas A&M. Dr. Harriette Andreadis retired in the Spring of 2014 donating her materials well as several personal items to Cushing Memorial Library & Archives.

This collection contains biographical data, publications, and data on the Biology Department at Texas A&M in which Sewell was a faculty member, as well as reports and other papers relating to oyster mortality research carried out through the Texas A&M Research Foundation Research Project 9 (February 1, 1947 - May 31, 1950).

The research project 9 was funded by six major oil companies and led by two Texas A & M University Professors, Sewell H. Hopkins (Head) and John G. Mackin (Associate Head).

Prompted by several lawsuits filed by Louisiana oystermen against major oil companies claiming damages to oyster fields as a result of drilling in the Gulf Of Mexico region, Project 9 was conducted under the auspices of the Texas A & M Research Foundation. Project 9 allowed researchers to design and implement field and laboratory studies seeking to determine the effects of oil production activities on oyster production. Eventually, a then as-yet-unknown parasite was discovered which preyed upon the oyster crop after they had begun to reach maturity.

Two other large research groups investigating the same allegations against oil production in the Gulf headed by H. Malcome Owen (Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission) and Albert W. Collier (Gulf Oil Company) compared notes with the Heads of Project 9, coming to the same conclusion. As a result of this collaboration, a description of this newly discovered parasite called Dermocystidium marinum was published in 1950. The lawsuits were subsequently dropped or settled out of court.

More importantly for the history of the Texas A & M University System, however, is the fact that Research Project 9 led ultimately to the creation and expansion of a Marine Sciences program, represented by the newly established (1949) Department of Oceanography at Texas A & M University in College Station. On 1 June 1950, after the termination of Research Project 9, Research Project 23 was begun to continue studies on oyster disease and maintain a Marine Laboratory at Grand Isle, La. The Texas A & M Marine Laboratory was established (1952) at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Tex. In 1968 Texas A & M University was named a Sea Grant College. The Marine Laboratory and the Texas Maritime Academy were merged in 1971, which is now known as Texas A & M University at Galveston.

These papers, therefore, form a picture of the ground-breaking research in oyster mortality conducted by Sewell H. Hopkins as head of Project 9, which led to increased sensitivity of the interplay of industry and the ecosystem, and to the formalized study at the university level of marine biology in the Gulf area.

The Hillel Articles and Photographs Collection contains photocopies of newspaper clippings, photographs of social events, and a guest book ledger related to the Jewish student organization at Texas A&M University. The collection date range is from 1940 to the 1960’s. The collection contains information about Hillel’s involvement with the World War II effort, including highlights of Jewish Aggie veterans of World War II. Photographs, articles, ceremonies, and building information for the Texas A&M Ike and Fannie Sablosky B'Nai and B'Rith Hillel Building are included within the collection. Other information within the collection contain highlights of Hillel Club organized social dance, including photographs and a guest book ledger.

These six letters, dated December 12, 1862 - August 6, 1863, are from Benjamin M. Linsley to his friend Mrs. Lucy G. Palmer in Suffield, Conn. Each letter is written in ink on both sides of a single folded sheet, except for the first one, which is on two folded sheets, sewn together in the center with cloth thread at some point after they were composed. All are addressed by Linsley from the camp near Falmouth, Va., where his regiment, the 14th Infantry of the Army of the Potomac was based, except the last one, which is addressed from McKinnis Hospital in Baltimore, Md., where Linsley was sent to recover from typhoid fever.

In the letters, Linsley comments on the failure of the Union army to obtain substantial victories ever since the Union defeat at Fredericksburg; inflated prices for postage stamps and sutler's goods; the despair he feels at the poor treatment in general of the sick in military hospitals, not only by medical personnel but by fellow soldiers; strategies for obtaining better food and bedding for his brother while nursing him through a severe fever, probably typhoid; the need for statesmen of moral standing more like George Washington than the much clamoured for "little man" George MacClellan; the trials of long marches in either rain and mud to cross the Rappahannock and Rapidan rivers, only to retreat back over them after the battle of Chancellorsville, or the intense heat of marches toward Warrenton Junction, Va., from which Linsley was transported with the sick and wounded to recover from typhoid himself in McKinnis Hospital at Baltimore; the desperation of deserters being taken to their punishment; the immoral behaviour of men in camp; the need for more good chaplains like Clay Trumbull of Hartford, Conn., who served with his brother's regiment of Volunteers; and perhaps, more poignantly, the eerie sound of drums during funerals for the many soldiers who died in camp from sickness in their poor living conditions.

The letters are now each encased in a clear plastic sleeve. A one-page report from the National Archives and Records Administration is included with the first letter. This NARA report (2 July 2001) replies to a request made by Professor Dale Baum of Texas A & M University in April 2001 to locate and make a copy of Benjamin M. Linsley's pension documents packet, stating NARA staff could not locate the materials. Baum had listed Linsley as an enlistee of the U.S. Army in Company A, 1st Battalion, 14th U.S. Infantry.
