This faceplate was on an old workgroup server (the hot-swap machine) originally used by the UNIX support team at Texas A&M University Libraries. This and other servers, which were replaced in the late-2000s, were whimsically assigned nicknames by the staff based on characters from the science fiction television show Farscape.

The server to which this faceplate was attached was named "Crais", after Captain Bialar Crais, a major Farscape character. In March 2003, Lani Tapu, the actor who portrayed Crais, was a guest at Aggiecon, and while on campus autographed this faceplate. After several years in operation, the server was replaced and sent to surplus, but the faceplate was retained by the Associate Director for Systems and eventually donated to Cushing Library.

The collection spans Bill Crider's entire career. A near-complete run of manuscripts traces his writing career, supplemented by a correspondence file, miscellaneous material, and books and magazines. A long run of "DAPA-EM," the organ of a mystery writer's amateur press association completes the collection.

The Arkham House Collection consists of correspondence from August Derleth to Howard Wandrei. Derleth, a writer, founded Arkham House to publish and keep in print the work of Howard Phillips Lovecraft, a friend and fellow writer. Lovecraft died in 1937; for the next two years Derleth tried unsuccessfully to find a publisher for Lovecraft's writings. Using money from prepaid orders and the personal investment of Donald Wandrei (brother of Howard Wandrei), Derleth founded Arkham House in 1939. Arkham House published science fiction works by Lovecraft and other writers such as Algernon Blair, Clark Ashton Smith and Henry S. Whitehead.

In his letters to fellow science-fiction writer Howard Wandrei, August Derleth writes about his publishing efforts at Arkham House, his own writing career and the details of his personal life. His letters also mention other authors and publishing houses. The letters date from 1930-1953; most letters are accompanied by the original stamped envelopes.

This collection consists of issues from the comic book continuation of the television shows Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, both created and produced by Joss Whedon. Included are the issues for the final two story arcs of Buffy Season Eight, for the story arcs in Season Nine and Ten, and for the beginnings of Season Eleven. Season Nine and Season Ten are divided into two separate story strands, one following Buffy and her friends as they adapt to post-Sunnydale and post-Season Eight life in San Francisco, the other chronicling the ongoing adventures of the ensouled vampire Angel and Buffy's rival Slayer, Faith.

There are also issues of two mini-series that were published as part of Season Nine, which follow the adventures of the characters Spike and Willow, respectively. In addition, there are several issues of an additional Buffyverse comic mini-series from Dark Horse, this one exploring the development of the character Illyria (who figured in the television show Angel).

This collection consists of 3 sets of bound volumes containing copies of science fiction stories that were collected from various libraries, archives, and other places. None of the materials within the volumes is owned by Cushing Library and Archives.

This collection was originally assembled by Martha Millard, the literary agent of noted science fiction author William Gibson. The collection contains correspondence between Millard and Gibson, agency business correspondence to and from Millard concerning Gibson's publishing career, assorted photographs, and an agency publicity file that includes publicity materials, files of Gibson's book reviews, interviews with Gibson, and articles about Gibson and/or the cyberspace and cyberpunk phenomenons.

Of particular note are a number of Gibson's original writings, which are also housed in the collection. These writings include such important Gibsoniana as his original 1981 outline for what would become Gibson's first novel Neuromancer; a 1984 outline for a never-completed novel, The Log of the Mustang Sally; an outline for Mona Lisa Overdrive(1986); a chronology and notes for The Difference Engine(1987); and copies of Gibson's screenplays for Alien III(c. 1990, unused) and Johnny Mnemonic(1992, 1994).

The Martha Millard Archive of William Gibson is a important collection for exploring not only the development of Gibson's writing career, but the ways in which an author, his agent, and his publishers interact with one another, working together to create and publicize a final literary product. The collection also provides numerous examples of the cultural impact that Gibson, as the coiner of the term 'cyberspace' and founder of the cyberpunk sub-genre of science fiction, has had on his colleagues, fans, and contemporaries.

Miscellaneous items acquired randomly, related to science fiction and fantasy. Items include convention materials, posters, and various items of realia.

The collection contains a wide variety of material related to Star Trek, including books, records, calendars and realia such as pins, playing cards, music boxes, pictures, magazines covering Star Trek, apparel, cups, and glasses, models, ornaments, and other collectibles.

Approximately 102 books have been integrated into the Science Fiction and Fantasy Research Collection. Each book added has a note "Sharon Faye Wilbur Star Trek Collection."

An additional series contains reference material relating to the author Andre Norton, with whom Wilbur was acquainted. Works by Norton that Wilbur owned have been integrated into the Science Fiction and Fantasy Research Collection.

This collection consists of the galleys for A Dirge for Sabis (Book 1 of The Sword of Knowledge), by Cherryh and Leslie Fish, the first book in the Cherryh-created "Sword of Knowledge" shared world series. Also included is an original book cover for the paperback edition, and a "Dear Reviewer" letter from Baen Books.

This archive includes a full run of the publication to date to date, including the master copies of several issues. There are some additional publications and ephemera.

Self-described as "the magazine Margaret Atwood warned you about," referencing Atwood's famous dismissal of science fiction as "rockets, chemicals and talking squids in outer space," Space Squid is a science fiction/humor 'zine published in Austin, Texas.

A collection of letters to and from Robert E. Howard, from circa 1920-1936, with miscellaneous Howard items, copies of magazines featuring Howard stories, and books containing Howard stories and novels. Also included are a number of items relating to films based on Howard's works.

The Burgess Collection consists of the first draft of the unpublished novel Puma, written in 1976 as a film treatment that was never made into a film. The novel is accompanied by a letter of explanation from Brian Kirby to Jim O'Roark, February 7, 1979.

Portions of the novel, which was pitched as an update of the classic film When Worlds Collide and which would have told the story of a planet [named "Puma"] hurtling towards Earth, was later adapted by Burgess into his 1982 novel The End of the World News.

This collection consists of galleys of uncorrected proofs for Del Rey's 1975 short story collection The Early Del Rey.

This collection consists of numerous manuscripts and related materials - including outlines, notes, and proofs - of works by noted science fiction author Robert Silverberg.

This collection consists of manuscripts for several works of fiction by Utley, including the novella Custer's Last Jump (1976, with Howard Waldrop) and the short-story anthology Ghost Seas and Other Vistas (1997).

This collection contains the original manuscript, with author's revisions, of Leiber's 1979 story "The Button Molder", and includes as well as a copy of the first hardbound appearance of the story: Whispers (October 1979), which is signed by Leiber, the work's artist, and the work's editor. "The Button Molder" won the British Fantasy Award for Best Short Fiction in 1980.

Also included, the manuscript, with edits, of Leiber's 1973 review of the anthology Hauntings, intended for the "Fantasy Books" section of the magazine Fantastic Stories of Imagination.

The Fern Marder & Carol Walske Fanzine Collection consists primarily of a large number of science fiction media fanzines (primarily fanfiction), mostly relating to Star Trek: The Original Series (TOS). Additional fanzines relate to other media, notably including Star Wars.

Also included in the collection are a large number of scripts (final versions and drafts) and storylines from various science fiction media, including episodes (several of them unproduced) of Star Trek (TOS); Star Wars (in its evolving incarnations); The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai; Blade Runner, and others. Some of this material consists of photocopies, while others are original production copies obtained by Marder or Walske at various intervals.

There are also some additional materials, including program books from various Star Trek conventions, as well as oversized materials that include issues of The Monster Times and foldout maps and blueprints from the Star Trek universe. The maps of the Trek universe are considered part of the Maps Of Imaginary Places Collection.

The majority of the contents in this collection consists of fan fiction. Fan fiction is the name given to literary or artistic productions created by fans about the characters, settings and events of the media universe in which they are interested. A small portion of the fanworks in the Marder and Walske Collection is identified as "slash” or as "het". "Slash" refers to fanworks that feature same-sex relationships and are sometimes (though not always) sexually explicit. In slash, sexual identity, sexuality and/or romance are often the centers of the story, rather than the conventional adventures featured in more traditional fanworks. "Het", like slash, refers to fanworks featuring sexual or romantic content, but with opposite-sex relationships.

Slash and het items are identified as such on the item folder. If an item is not identified as slash or het, it is to be assumed that the item is "gen" (containing no sexual or romantic content. Both slash and het items have been specifically identified because of their importance as highly visible fan fiction subcultures.

This collection consists of a number of typed manuscripts from acclaimed science fiction and fantasy author Andre Norton, spanning much of her later career, from 1981-2005. Nearly all the manuscripts are autographed by Norton, and nearly all are also marked by handmade corrections from either Norton, her editor, or her publisher.

In some cases, individual titles contain multiple copies of manuscripts (albeit with individual hand corrections) and it is unclear in which order the copies were produced. The term "original", which has been given to certain manuscripts, is a term used by Norton and does not necessarily mean that it is literally the original typed manuscript.

The collection also contains several pieces of correspondence from Norton, most dated between 1963-2004, with two that are undated. Most are typed letters that bear Norton's signature, but a few are handwritten.

This collection consists of the manuscripts and associated materials, that document the life and career of award-nominated science fiction and fantasy writer Kay Kenyon. Materials in this collection include typescripts, drafts, notes, summaries, and correspondence.

This collection consists of manuscripts and working files from Texas fantasy and science fiction writer Marshall Ryan Maresca, most well-known for his ongoing Maradaine series, which contains several sub-series of novels, all set in and around the fantastical city of Maradaine. Materials in the collections include drafts in various stages of many of his works, as well as proofs and working notes.

This collection consists of typescripts of several of Binder's novels with most including the author's corrections and accompanying carbons, and a number of short stories with most corrected including carbons and in some cases tearsheets from the magazines in which the stories initially appeared, corrected and with continuation sheets for expansion into full-length books.

In addition, there are close to 300 business and personal letters, photographs, postcards, and other files including broadcasting projects, non-fiction articles, letters and critiques from literary agents and publishers, materials on Space World, and several folders of unfinished manuscripts. Unusual "picture cards" featuring text and photographs on postcards are included.

Excluding duplicate carbons, letters, etc., there are approximately 2,300 pages (mostly 11 x 8.5-inches) of typescript with a total of about 575,000 words. Many of Binder's letters are on letters received or on the backs of manuscript or script fragments.

This collection consists of original materials that were published by the small Cheap Street Press between 1983-1990. Materials include typescripts and galley proofs of works written for Cheap Street by Elizabeth Lynn, Tanith Lee, Andre Norton, and John Sladek.

This collection contains a 286-page unproofed typed copy of Foster's 1977 novel The End of the Matter.

This collection consists of a number of action figures, statues, and Funko POP figures, almost all of whom depict Marvel or DC superheroes. There are several other items that depict other figures from pop culture.

This collection details some of Heinlein's interactions with Shasta Publishers and with Playboy Enterprises.

The Shasta Publishers' correspondence, primarily from 1945-1958, provides insights to the dealings of Heinlein with an early specialty publisher of science fiction, and to one of the first science-fiction specialty publishers. The Playboy correspondence covers some contractual issues and providing insight on the methodology of creating a "Playboy Interview," including the "caboose," a two-page typescript addendum to the 1969 Playboy interview. The letters reference Heinlein's trip to Chicago, and to the Playboy panel in 1984.

The Sam Moskowitz collection consists of his research files, correspondence, manuscripts, many of his books, and working documents related to his study of the history of science fiction and fantasy.  Drafts of two unpublished books are included.

This collection consists of Oliver's manuscripts, notes, and correspondence, published books, magazine appearances, books collecting his stories, foreign-language editions, clippings, and other related material. Chronologically, the collection ranges from the mid-1950s through the mid-1990s.

This collection consists of various materials related to American fantasy author Lloyd Alexander, including a few pieces of correspondence, a number of Christmas cards illustrated and signed by Alexander, informational brochures, invitations, and miscellaneous items.

This collection consists of manuscripts (in various drafts) from fantasy author Django Wexler. Included are drafts from works in Wexler's _Forbidden Library_and _Shadow Campaigns_series, as well as promotional materials such as bookmarks, shirts, posters, and stuffed animals.

This collection contains the typed manuscript for Tucker's 1954 novel Wild Talent, as well as the original typescript and page proofs for Tucker's 1974 novel Ice and Iron.

This collection consists of manuscripts and literary materials from Mexican-Canadian fantasy and horror novelist, editor, and short-story writer Silvia Moreno-Garcia. Materials include versions and drafts (in paper and digital form) of her novels Signal to Noise (2015), Certain Dark Things (2016), and The Beautiful Ones (2017), among others.

This collection consists of materials relating to the production and performance of The Intergalactic Nemesis (originally created 1996) and its sequels. The Nemesis adventures, created by Austin, TX-native Jason Neulander, are billed as "live-action graphic novels," combining the visual medium of comic books with elements of radio play and traditional stage performance. During the stage show, panels from the comic series are projected on a large screen, while three actors perform the voices for all the characters, a Foley artist performs the sound effects (as in traditional radio shows), and a pianist performs the soundtrack.

The collection includes various drafts of the Nemesis spinoff novel Blood Sacrifice, by Neulander, along with various publicity materials relating to performances of Nemesis and its sequels; posters; copies of the published Nemesis graphic novels, comic books, CDs and DVDs, and digital recordings of broadcasts and rehearsals.
