History

Dr. Smythe received his medical education at the University of Pennsylvania. He moved to Texas in 1851, served as Chief Surgeon of Walker's Division in the confederate army, and as a professor of Chemistry in the Galveston Medical College. Dr. Smythe was the first Teas A&M College physician in 1896, and a professor of physiology and hygiene. He practiced medicine for over twenty years in Bryan, TX. He passed away in 1889.
