The E. J. Kyle (1894-1957) Papers contains reports, correspondence, speeches, articles, applications, pamphlets, newspaper clippings, programs, pictures, memorandums, lists, and resolutions. Materials include correspondence, reports, speeches, and articles on E. J. Kyle's attempts to acquire more land and construct new buildings for the School of Agriculture at Texas A & M College. Other speeches and articles written by E. J. Kyle are concerned with subjects as cotton, soil conservation, and the cultivation of vegetables, fruits and nuts, particularly pecans.

Also present are reports Kyle wrote pertaining to Texas A & M College's enrollment plans and teaching techniques in Agricultural classes. Since Kyle was the head of many different programs at Texas A & M College, his papers contain applications and other information regarding the Land Prize, Anderson-Clayton Company Scholarship, and programs on Short Courses taught from 1913 to 1936. In addition to his academic duties, Kyle was also deeply involved with various types of research and the papers contain a few of the booklets, articles, and resolutions pertaining to the Soil Erosion Project, Frozen Food Research, and Texas Wildlife Research.

Correspondence in the papers deals with not only E. J. Kyle's work, but also contains letters from former students, commendations sent to Kyle, and letters concerning the naming of Kyle Field sports arena on the Texas A & M College campus.

Photographs contained in the collection are pertain to agricultural topics, such as cattle and pecan trees, the NYA program, Texas A & M College buildings, Texas A & M College football teams and sports events, and Kyle Field.Several football team rosters, programs from football games, newspaper clippings about sports events, and correspondence dealing with Kyle's position on the Athletic Council represent Kyle's close connection with many of the Texas A & M College athletics program.

Also present is a certificate of Kyle's appointment to the Farm Credit Association.

Address on status of natural resources and training men to direct conservation and restoration of natural resources; article from Producer Consumer on waste of resources; other addresses on status of natural resources.

Commendations - 1936 - 1943

Contains incoming correspondence praising Kyle, and incoming/outgoing correspondence concerning how retirement plan at A and M affects Kyle, Texas Baby Chick Association award.

Photographs

Most pictures are captioned and relate to agriculture. Some negatives are included. Contains some L. A. Schreiner photos of Texas Longhorn and pecan tree, Kerrville, Texas. Some photos relate to soil conservation.

School of Agriculture: Reports On

Contains reports for years 1926, 1930, 1936-37. Includes 1925-1937 Progress Report, and 1930 Report to Board of Directors on the School of Agriculture. Contains 1938 Taylor Memorandum on Wildlife, other department memoranda for 1938, and Teaching Division data for 1940.

Photographs

Collection includes pictures of Kyle Field, early athletes, early A and M buildings and campus, 1909 football team, Thanksgiving Hop invitation. Many of the pictures are captioned.

Letters from Aggies Concerning Building of Kyle Field

Incoming/outgoing correspondence pertaining to reading and publication of a history of athletics at A and M College. Also includes list of names of 1907 class members present at student body meeting for the purpose of naming a new athletic field.

Topics include problems facing cotton farmer, status of cotton industry with suggestions for the future, article for Cotton Oil News on cotton farmer as a businessman.

Fruits - 1914

Contains articles beginning circa 1914 concerning development of peach orchards, pears, peach growing in Texas, cost of developing citrus grove in Rio Grande Valley, oranges, fruit growing on the Medina Lands, and planting trees. Correspondence concerning lack of cold winter effecting growth of Elberta and other North China varieties of peaches, and pears.

Land Prize - 1927

Includes applications of persons seeking prize, incoming/outgoing correspondence from applicants and those endorsing them, newspaper clippings announcing winner.
