Portée et contenu

This collection consists of issues from the comic book continuation of the television shows Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, both created and produced by Joss Whedon. Included are the issues for the final two story arcs of Buffy Season Eight, for the story arcs in Season Nine and Ten, and for the beginnings of Season Eleven. Season Nine and Season Ten are divided into two separate story strands, one following Buffy and her friends as they adapt to post-Sunnydale and post-Season Eight life in San Francisco, the other chronicling the ongoing adventures of the ensouled vampire Angel and Buffy's rival Slayer, Faith.

There are also issues of two mini-series that were published as part of Season Nine, which follow the adventures of the characters Spike and Willow, respectively. In addition, there are several issues of an additional Buffyverse comic mini-series from Dark Horse, this one exploring the development of the character Illyria (who figured in the television show Angel).

Note générale

In 2003, the cult television show Buffy the Vampire Slayer ended its seventh and final season, with Buffy and her friends having overcome the plans of the First Evil to overrun the world with prehistoric vampires. In the process, Buffy's hometown of Sunnydale was destroyed, which sealed the Hellmouth beneath it and left Buffy (formerly the one, and then one of the only two Slayers) free and at the head of an army of Slayers. Buffy's spinoff show Angel, which explored the adventures of Buffy's former lover, the ensouled vampire Angel, as he battled evil in Los Angeles, lasted an additional season.

The shows' creator, Joss Whedon, partnered with Dark Horse Comics starting in 2007 to continue Buffy's adventures in comic book form, wherein Whedon and his fellow writers and artists would be free to explore the Buffyverse without the usual budgetary constraints of broadcast television. In Season Eight, Buffy and her close friends ("the Scooby Gang") command an army of Slayers all over the world, battling against the mysterious figure Twilight, who seeks to destroy magic everywhere in Earth's dimension. The season ended with this world-changing event actually occurring.

In Season Nine, Ten and Eleven, Buffy struggles to adjust to a "normal" life in San Francisco, in which no supernatural creatures exist in any great numbers for her to fight, where her Slayer army has disbanded, and where she has returned to her early status as a lone Slayer battling individual vampires. Eventually, as new enemies arise and magic starts to seep back into the world, she returns to the larger fight. Running alongside these events is the series Angel & Faith, which details how Angel and Buffy's sometimes-rival Slayer Faith fight their own battles, including the ongoing one for Angel's redemption, in and around London.
